With spring sports right around the corner, the Boys’ JV lacrosse team prepares for their approaching season. This season is different than any other Westborough has had in a long time with new varsity coach Timothy Montgomery not only working with his Varsity squad, but also with his future players on the JV team to further advance the program.
Returning JV players were impressed with some of the new players they gained and have high hopes for the season ahead. Returning JV player Aidan Burke said, “This year is going to be something special”.
Declan Gardner, another sophomore player added, “We are definitely going to be better than last year”.
Last year both teams had decent seasons but also struggled in some areas. For Varsity, it was the lack of communication that held the team back. For JV, the lack of confidence and playmaking led to a season where lost games could have been wins.
A new freshmen player that will better the team is Drew Arnold who will play goalie this year. On the offensive side, the starting midfield line of Aidan Burke, Sam Crofton, and Matt McCarthy will look to be the playmaking part of the offense. On attack, Declan Gardner and Griffin Barriere will play the wings while Vincent Pascale will play the x. This lineup will look to be a large source of points for this coming season. Defensively, junior Jay O’toole will be paired with Jamie Hight and Justin Gonzalez who will be protecting the net in an effort to improve from last years performance.
Overall, this season’s team is trying to improve on last year’s disappointment. So far, most everyone on the team thinks this season will have a different outcome than the last.
