National Culture Week was celebrated here at Westborough High as the language department played games, learned about culture in other countries, and ate delicious traditional foods from all around the world. One of the activities for the week involved foreign language students bringing in food for teachers and students to enjoy during lunch.
About the lunch, sophomore Anushka Ghosh said: “The food really represents the diverse culture we have in our school.”
Not only was the food a delicious treat for school members, it was also a way to bring the school community together. Students gathered in the lobby of WHS as they talked with friends and worked their way down the tables filled with hundreds of different treats.
Added Ghosh: “It’s fun. Like going to a food court with your friends but in school.”
Although last year was a success, changing locations from the hall to the lobby was definitely a benefit for the event. Senior French student Emily Sailor noted “It was super successful last year and people wanted to have another great year this year.”
The turnout was fantastic this year. The lines were long and although there was a wait to get the food, friends were able to enjoy one another’s company and try new foods.
Additional activities throughout the week took place in the classroom. Although activities differed from teacher to teacher, spreading awareness for the world around was prominent. Whether it be playing cultural games, reading articles, or watching videos and movies, students were definitely made aware of new circumstances and got to experience different aspects of life.
