Rangers for a Cure has been getting the winter sports teams involved here at WHS with their annual Compete for a Cure event. With the ultimate goal of getting the student body involved in a large-scale fundraiser, the event pits teams against each other to see who can raise the most money.
Each team chooses a specific cancer organization and brainstorms fundraiser ideas before carrying out the event sometime during the winter season. When all fundraisers are complete, the team able to raise the most receives a pizza party. Not only does the event benefit cancer organizations, but it also brings the teams closer together, giving teammates time to bond while also helping a great cause.
“The goal is to get as many students involved while also raising money for some amazing foundations” says club president Katie Bretta. “My favorite part is seeing every team bond over the event and seeing what they all achieve together” adds Bretta.
As the competition prepares to begin, teams consider their fundraising options. In years past, teams have set up donation buckets, held basketball clinics, bake sales, and a variety of other events. It will be exciting to see what teams will plan to do this year.
This event has been a huge success in the past and a very fun one as well. Good luck to all the teams participating!
