It was a tough loss for the Rangers Hockey team last night as they took on the Wachusett Mountaineers in their first game of the Boroughs Cup. Losing 5-2, the Rangers had opportunities that they will have to put away in the future.
After going down 1-0 in the opening period, the team fought hard in the second. With 4:56 left in the period however, the Mountaineers slipped another goal past senior assistant captain, Jeff Bernard.
Westborough came back strong in the final period of the game after Wachusett scored their third goal. Senior captain Jake Uhlman tucked in the first goal for the Rangers 11 seconds later. In the final 15 seconds of the game, junior Trevor McNamara added a second goal for the Rangers. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late.
Although it was a tough fought battle, the Rangers were not able to pull out the win. With 7 seniors to lead the young team, the Rangers are prepared to improve as they head into the regular season.
The Rangers play their second Boroughs Cup game this coming Saturday, December 19, at 6:00 at North Star.
