The movie The Intern written and directed by Nancy Meyers, rated PG-13, was released on September 25. Starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway, it was quite hilarious. The movie’s audience consisted of men, women, and teenagers, all who were laughing frequently.
The main character Ben, played by Robert De Niro, is a 70-year-old widow who decides one day to become an intern for a clothing company. Jules, played by Anne Hathaway is the 32-year-old founder and CEO; Ben is assigned as her intern, but she likes to do things by herself. During the first half of the film Jules continuously comments to her trusted colleague about how she doesn’t need an intern. Although Jules continues to insult De Niro, Ben doesn’t let Jules’ remarks affect him.
In the middle of the movie, Ben’s relationship with Jules starts to turn around. Although he cleans up her office and helps keep Jules safe when he notices her driver driving under the influence, Jules is still annoyed with him. However, the next morning, when Ben was picking Jules up, he made a connection with Jules’ young daughter, Paige, played by JoJo Kushner. This is when she not only approves of him, but Jules develops trust for him. She quickly has him assigned back to her as her intern, and their new relationship continues to develop and improve.
The plot contributed positively to the movie, and the acting was very well done; DeNiro and Hathaway portrayed the characters well. This movie had the audience’s attention the whole time, and I would definitely recommend seeing The Intern.
