Gianna Scioletti, junior volleyball star here at Westborough High School, continues her season after high school with her club team; Smash Volleyball. Picking up the sport as a freshman, she has played at the varsity level ever since she was pulled up at the end of her JV season, where her height and skill benefitted the team greatly. Being the starting middle hitter for WHS, Scioletti has assisted in team accomplishments as well as setting her own school records; single season school record of 338 kills along with a school record of 90 blocks. Being new to the sport, she picked up the terminology and skills as the season went on, eventually getting her to the point she is at now.
Now committed to play division one volleyball at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, Scioletti looks forward to the continued progress and accomplishments that she still hopes to make prior to entering as a freshman. With a full season of high school volleyball remaining for this gifted athlete, Scioletti keeps her head leveled and looking forward to what’s still to come.
“My favorite part of the sport is definitely how much of a team sport volleyball truly is. EVERY SINGLE member of the team plays a huge role in every point earned. Whether you’re on the court making a great pass, set, hit, or on the bench cheering your teammates on, each person contributes to every play,” Scioletti mentions as she stresses her passion for the sport. Although this love for volleyball helped her make a decision on where she wanted to attend college, other factors were also considered before making the final decision.
With the intent to enrol in an early education program of study, she knew Sacred Heart would be the perfect fit. “It fits perfectly into every category that I could have asked for,” remarks Scioletti. “They have a great education program, they are close to home, and they have an awesome volleyball team.”
With her high school coach, Coach Anderson, and her dad having her back throughout the process and always being there to push her to do her very best, Scioletti will head into her senior year next fall ready to break even more school records than she did the past year. With a strong attitude to always do her best and never give up, Scioletti looks forward to becoming a Sacred Heart Pioneer.
