Countdown to April Break!
Have a Wonderful Break!

WHS Club Profile: SASA

The South Asian Student Association (SASA) is meets every Wednesday in Mrs. Perryman’s room. The club’s mission: to introduce students to a part of the world perhaps not explored in depth in the high school classroom as well as to promote cultural awareness.

SASA is currently run by its four board members; President, Maggie Adabal; Vice President, Natajha Qidwai; Treasurer, Asia Yousaf; and Secretary Joy Nduati. For the members, SASA provides an outlet from the regular schooldays, “It teaches things not taught in school, it broadens your horizons,” says Ritika, a member of the club.

By introducing different customs from South Asia, SASA dispels misconceptions about South Asians, around the world and here at WHS. It’s an outreach and introduction to the various ways of life and traditions from a place halfway around the world.

What can we expect from SASA this year? The group has two major events coming up that are sure to be successes. This spring, it’s the WHS Faculty and Peer Awareness Orientation, where SASA will further establish their club as an essential part of the WHS community.

Then, in celebration of the widely celebrated holiday, Holi, also known as the Festival of Colors, SASA will be hosting an event outside of school. The club also plans to participate in the MCC Talent Show.

Have the urge to travel? Feel the need to expand your horizons? Want to learn more about the world? Stop by SASA anytime you’d like! The club is growing in popularity and new members are always welcome. Take the chance to explore other cultures and connect with other students about tradition and life. The South Asian Student Alliance welcomes you!

This is a great idea .. but i still dont really understand why there is this club? Is it just about culture of South Asia, cause if its just about culture i feel that it shouldnt just be on one place. There should be a culture club where everyweek you explore new cultures.
