While many students and teachers are watching the NCAA basketball games and hoping that their brackets will be the best, sophomore Ashley Chiu has been working on some brackets of her own. Ashley is planning a new event, Minute to Win It.
“It’s based on a TV show on NBC,” Chiu says, “A bunch of people have a minute to finish a crazy task. We’re playing in a tournament style and if they don’t complete it [the task], they are eliminated. The champion will win a cash prize. All the money from tickets we sell goes towards the prize.”
Tickets will be three dollars at lunch the week of the event for underclassmen, two dollars for seniors, and five dollars at the door. Any contestant gets in for free.
This event is new for council and the school. Ashley says, “It’s been fun. I’m glad a lot of people have been supportive and really enthusiastic about it. I think for an event like this we need a lot of support, and I have been getting support, especially from the senior class.”
Sign-ups for competing are still taking place. If you are interested, find a partner to compete with and let Ashley know. She is organizing a bracket for seniors and teachers and another for underclassmen. The winners from each bracket will compete against each other in the championship round. The event will take place on Friday March 30th.
