Ms. Coelho: Welcoming E.S.L. Students to WHS

Ms. Coelho: Welcoming E.S.L. Students to WHS

by:  Antony Macario
English as a second language (E.S.L.) is a class that not too many people know about. But it is a famous class for new people who arrive at WHS who do not speak any English. The teacher who is responsible to teach these students to teach to communicate with people in English is Ms. Coelho.

She is from Cape Cod. She attended Smith College for a degree in Latin American Studies. Then she went to Umass Boston and earned her Master Degree in Applied Linguistics. She has been teaching for 20 years, 8 of those have been at W.H.S. Ms. Coelho thinks that her job is challenging, but she likes the students and helps them.

Ms. Coelho speaks two languages really well, English and Portuguese. Also she knows some Spanish and a tiny bit of French and German. She also works with students from different countries like Japan, India and China.

She decided to be an ESL teacher so she can help people communicate and also because she loves culture and languages. Ms. Coelho also loves reading and dancing.

No matter from what country you come, the ESL class and Ms. Coelho will be your new home at Westborough High School.
