Countdown to April Break!
Have a Wonderful Break!

Too Much Superfan For One Man?

Too Much Superfan For One Man?

I’m sure you have all heard about and incident at this past Saturday’s footbal gamel. One student, wait, one ‘superfan’ decided to march on the track at half time with a large American flag. The act seemed like a harmless way to promote the “USA Day” theme that the fans had at this game.

Now before I go any further, at this point at halftime there was no one on the field that could be disrupted. The band was in the bleachers and had already done their thing, the cheerleaders had cheered, and the teams were in their respected locker rooms. But kids, maybe students, from Marlboro were on the field playing catch with a football.

Now at this point at halftime is when the ‘superfan’ made his move. He walked down the bleachers, through the unlocked gate, and started his light jog around the track. At around the ten yard line he stopped, waved the flag, and then started to walk across the field. At this point a two angle attack was put on by adminstration. One came from the entrance of the field, the other from the visitors side entrance. Now this was expected. The whole crowd just thought he was going to be told to go back to his seat. But when he reached us, he gathered his stuff, and told us he was kicked out.

There is absolutely no reason he should be kicked out for this. This is one of those “slap on the wrist” situations. But no, he was kicked out. Is it really worth losing one of your most dedicated fans because he went onto the field in support of his country and (because of the theme) his team? This was a classic case of over-reaction. Yes, he did not have the right to be on the field, but kicking him out was a little drastic (oh and those kids playing football did not have the right to be on the field either).
