Kasey Packer Goes for the Gold

By Jamie Gagliano

Junior Kasey Packer is an active student council member at WHS. Her sheer enjoyment of Student Council is beheld by all who know her. So this year, Packer has decided to run for President of the region, the Central District of Massachusetts Association of Student Councils (CDMASC).

The CDMASC consists of 35 schools from around the Worcester and Middlesex counties. It is the largest of the five Student Council regions in Massachusetts. The officer elections for CDMASC take place at the CDMASC Annual Spring Conference. This year the conference is on May 13th at Shepard Hill High School. The positions on the regional Executive Board available are President, Vice President, Secretary and Public Relations Officer. Many of the candidates who do not win are assigned the role of delegate which allows them to hold a position on the regional executive board.

Packer is running for President of CDMASC and so far there are three other candidates who are opposing her. The WHS Council is adamant in supporting their peer. “Kasey’s ability to bring out people’s ability makes her stand out from the other candidates,” says Mr. Rota, the advisor for the WHS Student Council.

“I’m running for this because there is so much more I can do than just what is available to our Council. I love Student Council and I don’t just want to limit myself to WHS. There is so much more out there,” says Packer with a wide grin. “I don’t yet have a slogan, but I’ve got a team working on it. I’m just trying to avoid ‘Don’t Be Spacey, Vote for Kasey!’”.
