Rangers for a Cure is a Westborough High School club that has been active for nine years. This club’s goal is to fundraise for cancer research. The senior officers are President Emma Connelly, Vice President Bethany Woodcock, and Secretary Shriya Krishna. They are looking forward to a promising year of fundraising.
Woodcock says “This club has been around for at least nine years at WHS, so it has a strong foundation.”
In the 2017-2018 school year, Rangers for a Cure was very successful. They are bringing back many fundraisers from last year, such as charity football games, cancer walks, and selling goods outside of Roche Brothers. Other plans for the 2018-2019 school year are also already underway as the club prepares for the annual Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk.
Because of the many years that the club has been around, Rangers for a Cure has a strong program and a long list of fundraisers. In addition to the Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk, the club plans on participating in Rangers for a Cure at the WHS volleyball’s annual “Dig Pink” match.
They also will support the annual Rangers Tackle Leukemia football game where members of this club take part in gathering donations for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Rangers for a Cure will, just like last year, decorate and sell homemade christmas ornaments to raise money for Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
In the summer, there is the possibility of participation in the Camp Sunshine Summer Program, a summer camp created to spread joy for children undergoing cancer treatment.
Rangers for a Cure continues to grow, as many new underclassmen joined for the 2018-2019 school year. During the introductory meeting on Tuesday, the room was filled with prospective club members.
If you are interested in getting involved, making a difference, and working with an amazing group of people, reach out to one of the class officers. You can do so using their school emails; or by joining the Facebook group. All are welcome to come to the monthly meetings to discuss upcoming events.
Together, Westborough High School is making strides towards a cancer free society!
