Best Buddies Ready to Begin

By Carly Flahive

Best Buddies is a club offered at Westborough High School that helps students with intellectual and developmental disabilities make friends throughout the school and the community. A program run throughout many schools in Massachusetts, kids are paired with friends in one on one friendships, making students with disabilities blend in with the remainder of the school.

Here at Westborough High School, members of the club look forward to their Best Buddy events and enjoy being part of friendship groups outside of their education classes. Throughout the year, the club gathers for movie and game nights as well as days to just hang out or have a party. Senior President Hanna Kayem and Senior Vice President Michelle Aronson work hard all year to plan great events to make long lasting memories for themselves and their buddies.

Zach Smith, a four year member of the club, now a senior at WHS, expresses how he “loves being able to hang out with everyone at the events.”He also shares, “One of my favorite things is apple picking and I am looking forward to it.” As a manager for the Rangers football team, Smith has a busy schedule; however, he hopes to still be able to make this fun and entertaining occasion.

With apple picking coming up on October 11th and a Halloween party being planned for the 25th, members of the club are excited to get together. As Smith points out, “The club is a great way to hang out with our friends.”
