The weekend is over and first period starts. “No no no, I was there, I totally saw him hook up with her.” “Really, I’m her best friend, she told me that they didn’t.” “Wait so does his girlfriend know?” The typical comments made by high school girls whenever there is a scandal. My question is, who really cares? When you’re the one that they are talking about, it may not seem too funny, but I have to admit, when ever I am exposed to these conversations, I always listen in. What I don’t understand is why people find these things so amusing. Do we ever stop and think about who is actually hurting in this so called game of Truths and Rumors?

Not only can rumors certainly break up friendships and relationships, but how do we know a person is a credible source? Having someone say they saw it can only mean so much. Typical high school parties unfortunately include alcohol and drugs, and do those make people’s ‘vision’ clearer? And what about those so called best friends that know everything, but claim nothing happened. Are they telling the truth, or just trying to cover up something so “no one gets hurt”?

Bottom line is that apparently a guy and girl hooked up and the girlfriend is left out of the loop. What does she think about this? What does he think about this? What do you guys think about this? Clearly it’s in all of your interests to talk about it, but would you be the one to tell the girl if you really saw it? Would you want someone to tell you? Rather than talking about it, maybe step it up and tell the person if it really concerns you. So think about it. What would you do? Are you playing along in the game of Truths and Rumors?

It’s time for holiday shopping! Who’s ready?! I am. I love going into stores and shopping for others, then walking out of the store with cashmere scarves and gloves for myself. That seems to be a reoccurring habit during my Christmas shopping experience. Does that happen to anyone else? My goal this year is to stick to a list, pre-plan what I am going to buy for family and friends, and STICK to IT!

I’m blogging today to vent about some issues I have during the holiday shopping season. The biggest one: Venders in the mall who ask you to try their product EVERY time you walk by. Last year, there was a hair straightener that this guy totally wanted me to buy, but I was like, no thanks, I don’t need one. But what does he do? He pulls my arm over to the stand and starts picking at strands of hair and starts straightening them as if I was a doll or something. BUT, that is not all. Then he decides that he is going to amaze me with curling my hair with a straightner. Like I’ve never seen that before. I obviously had to sadly reject him with my annual line of, “You know what, let me go get my mom, then I’ll try and convince her to get one,” as I rapidly speed walk away so he doesn’t see which direction I walk off in. What is up with these venders? It’s obnoxious. The worst is the ones who want to thread your eyebrows, and the thought of that, just freaks me out. Does anyone else have any holiday pet peeves or horror stories at the mall? I have my fair share.

As many of you know, there was a tragedy a few weeks ago involving two small, elementary school children. Megan (eight years old) and Joe (six years old) lost their mother and father in a murder suicide. It has been hard for not only the children who didn’t understand the concept of “Mommy and Daddy are dead,” but for people in the community. Looking at articles recently about this incident, I have found that there is an education that’s been created for the children’s high school and college careers called the ”Joseph and Meghan Bibart Education Fund.” Once I found out about this fund, I knew I couldn’t just sit around and watch it develop, I needed to get involved.

First thing Monday morning, I talked with Mrs. Stoker about The Lobby-O setting up a fundraiser for the children. Luckily, I got it approved by her and Mr. Callaghan. Sooo readers, I am holding a fundraiser on Tuesday, December 14th, at the first Boys’ Basketball Game at 7pm. I will have a cute little booth set up towards the fan crowd and I hope that you all donate something towards Meg and Joe’s future. Any amount is appreciated. I also will be making announcements on the morning announcements for rest of the week and reminders after every quarter at the basketball game. There will possibly be a half time activity to raise some money. Thanks for your support and I hope you all donate!

“Where am I supposed to put my ketchup?!” “MY HOT SAUCE IS ALL OVER MY PLATE!!” There are new lunch trays. And it is the high school’s way of saving the planet and saving money. I think. Just an FYI, I am going off on what I have heard about the new lunch trays, so if anyone reading this wants to cut off my head for stating something wrong about them, just know, I don’t know everything. Or do I? Anyways, these lunch trays are really killing me. My weird eating habit is having a chicken patty at lunch with hot sauce to dip the patty and the french fries in. But how can I do that when the plates are lined in slippery plastic and since it’s runny, it begins to expand all over the plate!? I know this may be the smallest concern to most people, but this really is a big dilemma to me.

Actually, I decided that this is a big concern. Are we really saving money here? Does anyone know? And how is this reducing the amount of styrofoam? Because now there is plastic on them too. Hmm. It also seems to reduce the amount of food Dotty can put on our plates. And when there are mashed potatoes involved, I’m not sure if I like that. Well, does anyone else believe that this is a big deal, or am I sadly just weird? Well even if I am, I’d rather be upfront about it. So here it goes, I’m weird. I just can’t get over my hot sauce dilemma, can you? What do you all think of this? Is there any room for your dipping sauce?

One may think high school relationships will last forever, but I must say the harsh reality of the matter is: it’s probably not going to happen. As many students roam the halls of WHS, one may observe the different types of couples; the ones who know each other’s schedules like the back of their hands, the ones who pretend they don’t see each other as if they were in middle school, the ones who everyone secretly wishes they could have a relationship like, the ones who flirt ever so cutely, and the ones who continually slobber on each other. Nasty.

As a blogger, I am supposed to casually talk about things that interest me, or in this case, disinterest me. In a recent poll at WHS in which I conducted, I have come to the conclusion that a lot of WHS students find PDA nauseating and repulsive. If you have never seen the act of PDA, consider yourself lucky, or let’s face it, it’s probably you I am talking about. Kidding. But anyways, the common sight that most are disgusted by is the making out in the hall ways, the grabbing of the hips, the obnoxious gaze into each other’s eyes while holding each other’s faces, and the occasional butt slap we all sadly laugh at. There is a time and place for this matter, such as in front of a camera in Hollywood acting a skit or in your home secluded from society.

Of course there are the exceptions. The couple who holds hands as they walk to class, or the ones that give a brief, non heartfelt hug at some point during the day are totally acceptable. As long as hands and faces are kept to their selves, all should be fine. “Excessive kissing is annoying and awkward, but hand holding and hugs are acceptable,” according to a well defined senior. Other ideas about PDA are, “Making out in the hallways are a little too intense,” and “PDA should really stand for: Pretty Damn Annoying” (Pat Bryant). Bottom line, no one really wants to see you groping your significant other. Use the rule of “Would you do this in front of your grandmother?” Please be courteous of others. It’s gross.

As I have been walking around the halls of Westborough High School, I have noticed a trend among the girls. Although the trend may be flattering to some, I question, “Is this for real?” The trend I speak of is the cut off jean super short shorts, with the pockets hanging three inches below the denim. I’m sure the men that are reading this are saying, “Woah, Vanessa, I like this look on girls..” but is it really necessary for students and faculty to be looking at girl’s almost bare legs, and a possible peek at the back side? Yes, this is definitely appropriate for a 90 degree day at home lounging by the pool or at the beach, but as we approach 50 degree weather, I wonder what the reason is for wearing these shorts (should I even call them shorts?).

Thinking about it now, are faculty as uncomfortable as I am about seeing this sight? Think about it, how uncomfortable would you be if one of your students walked into class half naked, and you couldn’t help but stare? This is very blunt, but my heart goes out for the male teachers. I’ve always gone by the rule that as long as your shorts go down to your finger tips, they are 100% fine, but with the recent trend I question myself if I have just been too conservative for the past seventeen years of my life. But as a blogger for Westborough High School, I want to know your thoughts. Are these shorts a trend and I need to get over it, or are there others out there that find this style unattractive and unbarring? As I finish my post, my words to you all are: please cover up! It gives people a probable misunderstood judgment of who you might be. Again, the question is to all, to wear? Or too short and bare?
