Here are the top three hair trends that seem to be quite popular amongst the runway hair stylists. For the spring, there was a huge fad of having the models rock hair that was quick, simple and easy to imitate. The stylists put a unique twist on already everyday looks.

“Knotted Bun” – This is simple, but a very classic look that is easy to do in just a few seconds. Slick your hair into a low or high pony tail with either a center or side part and secure it with an elastic. Then loop your hair in different directions and in as you go. Make sure to finish off the look with some hairspray to keep fly aways and baby hairs away from the sleek look. (Have curly hair like me? either embrace the more “beachy look” or run a hair straightener through the pony tail just tame your curls for a more posh look.

“Slicked Back” – whether it’s a pony tail, half up, pinned back or just down, the slicked back hair is such a popular runway trend right now. How do you achieve this hair style without looking as if you just got out of the shower? Decide what style you want to do and just go for it. They key is to start off with just a little product. For example if you are using gel or a balm start with a dime size amount and then add more if you need it. Once it’s in your hair you can’t really take it out. Play around with what looks best with your hair and with this look confidence is key.

“The Braid” – Yes, I know this isn’t anything new or exciting. Heck, I’ve been rocking braids since pre-school. But I’m not talking Wizard of Oz braids here. Yeah they’re cute, but save them for Halloween. Try messing around with different ways of braiding or use them as an accent to the rest of your hair style. They were a pretty common trend on the runway models this season so look around for some inspiration.

Here are a few of my favorite trends that are popular this fall!

Collars:

This trend is on the top of my list! I am obsessed with this “collar moment” the fashion world is having. It makes any outfit look put-together and adds an element of class. There are really two versions of this “collar” trend; one way you can wear it is just simply wear a contrasting collar to the shirt you are wearing. I am seeing more and more shirts available with collars attached, but they also sell collars by themselves. This is a cool way you can mix and match what ever colors you want and start growing your collar collection. The other way is to wear the contrasting collar and add a bow. This gives you even more of a classy look. You can add a floppy bow or a bow tie. I love the look of the bow tie with a collar and there are so many different patterns and styles of bow ties out there. You may even need to hit up the men’s section to find your favorite one, but hey I shop in the men’s section all of the time.

Boho in the Winter:

Do you love the boho style in the summer? Well don’t say goodbye to it too soon, a trend this fall is rocking that bohemian vibe throughout the winter months. The key to winter boho is layering. Take all your pieces and just keep layering them on. It creates a really unique look and is comfortable too! Chunky knits look good over the layers of summer dresses and skirts. Try to find some extra long sweaters though, this will keep the flow of your outfit going rather than having a short sweater that cuts your off at a weird place. Remember bohemian is neutral and earthy in color, so try to stay away from neon and embellishments.

Black and Red Plaid:

One of the trending patterns and color combinations for this fall is black and red plaid. This pattern looks good in everything from shirts to shorts to dresses. Use this pattern in a feminine way, stay away from the “punk rock” plaid. This is always a classic “fall” look that can be simple and easy but still up to date.

Neo Baroque:

Get inspired by the royals of centuries past for the fall neo baroque look. Think about the rich colors, luxurious patterns and breathtaking jewels that the old kings and queens would wear. Take some of those details and incorporate them into your wardrobe. The shiny brocades, decorative embroidery and jeweled accents can instantly add glamor. Want some top of the line examples? Take a look at Dolce & Gabanna’s fall 2012 runway show collection. This collection shows the gold on black accents and how intricate each pattern is. This is a favorite trend amongst the celebrity red carpet events.

Oxblood:

Oxblood is the color for fall that everyone is talking about. You will see it in every magazine, on the runway, in the mall and on the streets of New York City. Oxblood is a redish, purple, maroon color that can be found on pants, dresses, shirts you name it, you can probably find it in oxblood. If you want to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe it couldn’t be simpler. Oxblood goes with almost every neutral color so your beiges, whites, creams, blacks, blues, and browns. Stay away from pairing it with anything neon or orange because it will look just down right ugly.

Equestrian/Classic English:

The equestrian look is still as hot as ever. Specifically this fall, the inspiration for this look is geared towards the “Classic English” riding look. You can still wear your riding boots but add a pair of skinny beige pants with some patches on the knee. Or add a navy blue riding jacket to add a more English flair to your outfit. Another way to involve an English tone is to try the trend of wearing colors in the same color but with different harshness. For example wear a beige (as you an tell this is a hot color for this fall) jacket with beige pants, but pick one of those items to be slightly darker than the other. With some knee socks, riding boots and a horse you will be ready to go!

I would like to introduce you to a new section of my blog,
all on organization. I feel like over the years I have become an expert closet organizer.
So I feel like I have some creative and helpful ways of organizing my closet, and I would love to share them with you! I am going to break it down into separate sections and focus on the different “elements” of a closet, in each post. We have to start somewhere so why not start off with clothes you should hang up.

Okay so I would first like to start off with saying I have a little ocd when it comes to my clothes and some of the stuff I do may sound a little extreme to the average person, but it works for me. Basically what I would advise you to do is, take all of your clothes and put them in a huge pile. Then separate them into piles, one pile for clothes to hang up and put the rest in another pile. What should go into the hang up pile?? Well any dresses, shirts that wrinkle easily, jackets, cardigans and whatever else you want. Personally I hang up way too many things, but I think it’s easier to look at what I have when it’s hung up rather than rummaging through folded shirts.

Once that’s done then you have to decide the order you want to put all of the clothes in, and this really depends on a personal preference. I start off with jackets, I like to put these in style order, going from winter jackets to spring jackets. Then I have dresses, these go in formal order, meaning they start off more formal and progressively move less formal, ending with summer dresses. Along with putting them in style order, this is where my ocd comes into play, I put them in color order. The reason I do this is to make it a faster process when I am looking for an item in a specific color. I also think it looks over all more eye pleasing, when they are in color order. So the next section would be shirts, I break these shirts into sections. Starting off with more “tank topy” shirts, then moving into crop tops then short sleeved shirts. After that, it moves onto polo’s then long sleeved shirts. These are all in color order in each of the sections.

If you’re not lost by now, the next section I have in my closet is the cardigan section. This is organized by length and color. The only reason I can do this is because I have an odd amount of cardigans, I don’t really know why I like them so much. But anyway so the next section in my closet is the sweater section. Ending with my shorts/skirts/ leftovers. Like I said my closet is a little over organized, but I hope this helped you if you were completely lost on how to attack your messy closet. Stay tuned for upcoming posts, and remember always strut “The Bubble” in style.

What is the latest Hollywood scandal? If you haven’t heard, it’s Dakota Fanning’s appearance on the upcoming February edition of Cosmo. Who is Dakota Fanning? Unless you live in a bubble… oh wait, we do, Dakota Fanning is known for playing some VERY mature starring roles in some of Hollywood’s biggest movies. Not only does Dakota have a perfect reputation in the acting business but is known by many in the fashion world. This girl gets an A+ for her reputation, and has been in the spotlight for ages. Maybe it has something to do with never making an appearance on Disney Channel… With that point aside, why so much scandal?? Well for one thing Cosmo is known as one of the more “racy” magazines, but is still one of the most respected women’s magazines of all time. Back to the question again, why so much scandal? Another reason for all the scandal is that Dakota Fanning is currently only 17 years old, and some people feel the magazine is too mature to have an underage girl representing them on the cover. Some people feel the headlines surrounding Dakota are too risqué for her only being 17. She was also in a Marc Jacobs perfume advertisement that got some negative attention for being a little racy. But personally I feel like this scandal has been blown way out of proportion and is a ridiculous amount of attention on a perfectly respectable girl. She is properly dressed in a beautiful dress, has her hand on her hip and has straight hair. This picture could easily be on any teen magazine and flow perfectly. Back to the age issue, yeah she is 17, but she turns 18 in the month of February, which is the same month this issue is being released. Dakota has done an awesome job about staying out of the gossip spotlight throughout the many years of her success, she obviously knows her goals in life and has accomplished them, she said in this specific February issue that, “Since I was young, I’v always known who I was.” Couldn’t have said it better. Now the question is why Dakota Fanning on the cover if Cosmo knew there may be some gossip about it… Dakota was voted “Fun, Fresh, Female of the year” for Cosmo. She is an obvious role model for many, and some reporters think being on this cover at such a young age will change that. Hmm, lets look back at some Cosmo history. Dakota is the youngest girl that has been on a Cosmo cover since 2000. But who was their youngest? Brooke Shields in 1981 at whopping age of 15. I don’t know about you but it makes me chuckle, Brooke Shields is not only considered still as one of the most beautiful people in the world, but is known for having some of the best “morals” out of all the celebs. She didn’t have kids at a young age (she was actually 38 years old when her first was born) she’s never been to jail, and is still currently an amazing role model. This just goes to show, when celebrity’s say they know who they are, they mean it. So I say lay off Dakota, she looks amazing on the cover and is seems always confident with her decisions, so that means her fans should be too!!

It’s about that time of the year again, the weather is starting to
change and winter is right around the corner. And every year we break
out the same old winter boots, but there is more than just your
classic snow boot. Want to know what the hottest boots are for this
season? Here is a list of the TOP 6 winter boots this season, so
don’t get stuck in that winter rut and try out a new style of winter
boots!

Cowboy Boots:
We all know of the classic cowboy boot, they are pretty popular in
western movies, and seen in the hundreds at country concerts. But now
they are one of the hottest boots for this winter season, you can find
them in almost any popular shoe store. They can dress up any outfit,
and are some of the most comfortable shoes once they are broken in.
Not only do they look good but, they are easy to dance in and of
course perfect for working on the farm!

Over The Knee Boots:
Another one of the hottest boots this season is the over the knee
boot, a boot that stop just above the knee. The best part about these
boots are how different they look. They look perfect with skinny
jeans, a patterned tank top and a cardigan. Even though these boots
are in this season, they do not look so good with skirts. Try to keep
the focus of the outfit on the boots, less is always more.

Equestrian:
One of my favorite styles is the “equestrian look”, and the classic
riding boots are always associated with this style. It’s my personal
favorite and seems to becoming more and more of a popular style found
at WHS. These boots are found a any of the more preppy stores, such
as Tommy Hilfiger or Ralph Lauren. These simple and classic boots are
perfect with a pair of skinny jeans. And to spice up the look, you
could wear a pair of knit knee socks under the boots, it looks so put together when just the tops of the sock stick out from under the boot.

Ankle Boots:
I would have to say ankle boots are my least favorite style of boot.
Maybe it’s because i am tall, but i just don’t find them flattering on
me. They only one’s i own have a 5 inch wedge, and that is my
favorite style out of the whole “ankle bootie” family. But I think
depending on the style they can look good on anyone. My favorite is
the heeled ankle bot, but there are slouchy ankle boots, tie ankle
boots and many, many more. Just pick which ever ones look most
flattering on you!

Grunge Boots:

Grunge boots are really starting to become a more known and popular style of boots here are WHS. I really like this style of boot and
it’s perfect for the more bohemian or vintage style but they could
also add an edge to a more girlie outfit. Throw on a vintage leather
jacket, some skinny jeans and some statement earrings. I have a pair
of these boots that I got in London two years ago, and it’s cool to
see two years later they are showing up at WHS.

Uggs: Uggs are EVERYONE’S guilty pleasure winter boot, I love them just as
much as the next person. I could write a whole blog post just about
Uggs (maybe next time). They come in so many different colors and
styles and a perfect for Massachusetts weather! Plus they are super
comfortable and keep your toes warm. Uggs can be worn with jeans,
leggings, or even sweatpants, and similar to riding boots they look
cute with knee socks underneath.
