Trump is on the road to impeachment

 By Josh Aronson
With hardly 100 days under his belt, President Donald Trump has not received much praise from– well — anyone. With historically low approval ratings, a failed travel ban, and a Russian scandal that just won’t go away, the 45th President is struggling to show his top notch leadership skills of which he boasted. But what does all of this mean in the long run?

For starters, it may not even be the long run. Al Green, a democratic congressman from Texas, started creating what he calls ‘Articles of Impeachment’ against the president. The basis for these articles is Trump’s malpractice in firing FBI director James Comey during the investigation into possible collusion between Trump and Russia.

Now, you might be thinking so what, a democrat is opposed to Trump, what’s the big deal? Well, there are actually many Republicans who are not so fond of him either, especially in the wake of the revelation that Trump allegedly shared classified information with the Russians. Not only did he have poor judgment in releasing classified information at all, but he also released it to one of our greatest adversaries. That’s more than a mistake.

Taking all of this information into account, it is important to note that the last president who was impeached was Bill Clinton. Clinton was impeached for an affair with his intern Monica Lewinsky. While it’s not necessarily a contest of who committed the more heinous act, Trump would seem to be in the lead. There has not been talk of impeaching a president for creating great mistrust between himself and his country since Richard Nixon’s resignation. It is due time for Trump’s comeuppance.

At the end of the day, would an impeachment really accomplish much? Clinton was able to finish off his second term after his impeachment. He did apologize, but Trump probably wouldn’t even do that. As for now, no one really knows where this is headed. It could blow up or fade away, ruin him or bounce right off of him. With everything that has happened, though, it sure seems like impeachment is imminent.
