Under The Lights Preview

The wait is finally over. The week of lights at Westborough High School will be taking place October 4-7. Every two years Westborough High School’s  fall athletics teams will participate in night games that will be played on the Westborough High School turf. For years the town of Westborough has been debating whether or not to install lights on the high school turf. This year will be another chance to experiment with the idea of installing permanent lights on to the Westborough High School turf.

The boys’ varsity soccer team will play Nipmuc Regional High School on Tuesday which will be the first game to be played in the week of lights. Senior captains Spencer Nagi, Vikram Matthew, Mike Reh, and Aiden Merritt will lead the Rangers on to the field with a record of 5-3-2. The team will look to bounce back after a 2-1 loss to Wachusett Regional High School. The Rangers are in fourth place in the Midland Wachusett league and hope to climb the ladder with a win over Nipmuc.

On Wednesday, the girls’ varsity field hockey team will square off against Fitchburg High School. The Rangers hold a 4-2-2 record and also rank fourth in the Midland Wachusett league. Senior captains Mridhu Khana, Olivia Weckwerth ,Campbell and Peyton Brown, will lead the Rangers into what appears to be a tightly contested game. Westborough had previously lost to Wachusett Regional High School by one goal, so the Rangers are looking to re-assert themselves and get a big win over Fitchburg.

Thursday night the varsity girls’ soccer team will go also play Nipmuc Regional High School. With a record of 3-2-4, senior captain Emily Longo and junior captain Claire Hounslow will look to lift the Ranger’s momentum with a big win under the lights. The Rangers are currently over .500 and hope to carry themselves in the division.

The week of lights concludes on Friday night when the varsity football team will play against Shepherd Hill High School. Westborough is coming off a 35-20 victory over North High School and now hold a record of 1-3. Senior Captains Alex Galin, Max Weidhaas, John Ashton, Avery Andrews, and Colin Gerrity will lead the Rangers against a very talented Shepherd Hill team.

The games are played at 7pm each night and the only game that has an admission fee of $5 is football.  Also please consider bringing a non-perishable canned good to donate to the Westborough Food Pantry.
