The Civic Restaurant

The Civic Restaurant

By Casey McNamara and Alexa Nichols

Civic

After the the closing of The Grille at Westborough Country Club there was a lot of of question to if Civic could live up to the grille’s past reputation. After experiencing The Civic, we can tell you that it surpasses all aspects of the Grille.

Starting with the service, the wait staff was very friendly, and quick to seat us. Also, our waitress was quick to take our orders, bring us drinks, and bring us our food. The waitress also checked in on us to make sure we were enjoying our food, but she wasn’t hovering over too much.

Along with the excellent service, the atmosphere of The Civic was very welcoming and serene. The walls of Civic are painted blueish-grey along with each table having a boutique of flowers as a center piece. A unique touch the civic had, unlike many other restaurants, was their use of a mason jar as the water glass. To add to the serene setting, the restaurant offers a nice view of the golf course from many of their tables, and they have a newly added deck, which is perfect for summer nights.

In terms of the menu, unlike the previous restaurant, the menu is less kid friendly and is definitely more appealing to adults. The only kid friendly food options on the menu were the grill cheese and the Cheeseburger. Although the Cheeseburger had an adult twist, being topped with pickled onions, holy grain mustard aioli, smoked gouda, and arugula on a Brioche bun, but you are able to have the cheeseburger with your choice of those toppings.

The menu also includes house made pastrami, chicken under a brick- grilled, marinated chicken, with Tuscan style potatoes and sauteed greens, a smoked pork chop, fish and chips, Gnocchi Al funghi-Ricotta porcini gnocchi, mushrooms, sage brown butter, and truffle oil, red wine short ribs, and scallops and bacon. All of these entrees are specific to The Civic, and no other restaurant in Westborough has these items on their menu. The Civic also has healthier options, like the kale salad, hazelnut bibb, and arugula. The kale salad comes with roasted squash, pumpkin seeds, spelt, and whole grain mustard vinaigrette.

Overall, The Civic’s food lives up to Westborough standards, and it will be a very popular place over the summer, due to the fabulous deck. Its very diverse and healthy menu will appeal to many people. This is definitely a hidden gem in the Westborough society, that all should try for themselves.

I´ve never been to the Grille, or the Civic, despite it being the restaurant closest to my house in Westborough. The food choices sound amazing, it should definitely be worth a trip!
