Is This Jersey Mother Tanorexic? Or Just Misunderstood?

By: Jess Welcher
In Nutley, NJ a 44-year-old mother has been accused of bringing her five-year-old daughter into a tanning bed with her. The child in question is thought to have first-degree burns from the standing tanning bed in question. The mother was released on bail for $25,000 and has not been tanning since.

The mother was dubbed the ‘Tan Mom’ by the media, featured in Jimmy Kimmel’s opening monologue, and portrayed by recent Saturday Night Live alum Kirsten Wiig in the sketch ‘The Weekend Update with Seth Myers’. Many have speculated whether or not the outspoken ‘Tan Mom’ is innocent or guilty of bringing her daughter into the tanning bed with her.

In my opinion, the ‘Tan Mom’ probably didn’t bring her daughter into the tanning bed with her. Although she is a frequent customer to a few local salons and heavily believes in remaining bronzed, she has argued that she is a dedicated mother to her five children and is aware of the danger of the effects tanning could have on her child. Telling TMZ to ‘step off’ and calling out those who oppose her by remarking that they are ‘fat and jealous’ may not be a productive way to say that you are innocent, but the passion behind these statements definitely show how dedicated she is to her family’s image, and how they feel they should be left alone.
