Countdown to April Break!
Have a Wonderful Break!

National Library Snapshot Day

National+Library+Snapshot+Day

On, Wednesday, April 13, the Westborough High School Library Media Center and Westborough Public Library will join libraries across the Commonwealth and the nation to provide a “snapshot” of what happens in a day in the life of libraries. How many books are checked out? How many classes visit the library? How many people receive help finding a job? Doing their taxes? Doing their homework or conducting research? During Snapshot Day, libraries will collect data and photos that help demonstrate the value of libraries and raise public awareness that libraries are busier than ever.

Everyone can participate! Pick up your books, DVDs and audiobooks at the Westborough Public Library, or stop in and be seen using the free wi-fi or public computers. Don’t miss the session at 6 pm on car buying, presented by Central One Federal Credit Union too! During the day at the High School Library, students can check out a book, participate in “Blackout Poetry” and find the resources they need for projects and homework. After School, the Libraries Teen Advisory Board will meet at the high school to participate in fun events. All the photos taken that day will become part of a slide show of activities in libraries of all types across Massachusetts.

“We’re looking forward to a fun, busy day that helps us show how much our residents use their library,” said Maureen Ambrosino, director of the Westborough Public Library. Busy days are the norm at libraries across the state. Anita Cellucci, High School librarian commented,

“This day will highlight that the library is an integral part of our school culture.” Over the past decade, libraries in Massachusetts have experienced a dramatic surge in usage, including a 50% increase in library visits, while experiencing a 39% reduction in state funding to support libraries.

Nationally, Snapshot Day is supported by the American Library Association which will compile state data to provide a national look at a day in the life of libraries. Massachusetts Library Snapshot Day is sponsored by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, the Massachusetts Library System, the Massachusetts Library Association, and the Massachusetts School Library Association.
