Countdown to April Break!
Have a Wonderful Break!

Pottery at WHS

By: Brendan Goodliffe and Cara Berg
Since 2003, the Pottery Club has provided an extra curricular activity for the students of WHS who are interested in art. Pottery Club is a student driven club; it was founded with the purpose of creating a skill-related activity where students build on what they learn.
On average, twelve to thirty Pottery Club members meets twice a month on every other Wednesday. In order to become a permanent Pottery Club member, a student must attend at least three meetings. However, second semester meetings have not begun, due to the unusual number of snow days.
Pottery Club is structured so that everybody knows the schedule from the start. To keep members informed, Pottery Club President junior Parul Sharma sends email updates.
Pottery Club comes up with a variety of different projects. Regular activities include making bowls, jewelry, and slabs. For a fun activity making pet rocks is a favorite.
Pottery Club has also been involved in bigger projects. During Christmas time this past year, Pottery Club participated in a fundraiser for Autism Speaks. Members sold their creations outside the cafeteria. The profit made was donated to sophomore Rebecca Ackerman who walked to raise money for the cause.
Pottery Club advisor and WHS art teacher Mrs. Rourke-Dupuis says there are many enjoyable parts to working with Pottery Club. When asked which project was her favorite, she replied by saying “that’s a hard question.” She followed up by saying, “if you have an interest in clay and you’ve never been able to fit it in your schedule, it’s a good way to see if you really enjoy it.”
