Mr. Jones: WHS’s Unsung Hero

For those who don’t recognize his name, Mr. Jones is a Special Education teacher here at WHS.

Before coming to Westborough, Mr. Jones taught at Wellesley Middle School for three years. He had the option of taking a job at Algonquin or Westborough; both quality schools close to his home. He obviously made the right choice and took a job here teaching Mathematics and Learning Center.

Mr. Jones has always lived in Massachusetts where he moved from Belmont in the 2nd grade to Marlborough, MA where he has lived ever since. He grew up throughout the ‘70’s and ‘80’s where in order to turn the channel on the TV, you had to get up off the couch and turn the dial.

Asking Mr. Jones to go a couple rounds is not recommended since he was a tough wrestler at Marlborough High School. He was also involved with boxing, football, and baseball. Nowadays Mr. Jones is highly interested in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) where you always catch a good fight.

Mr. Jones graduated from MHS in 1989 where he went on to attend Bridgewater State College. He graduated from BSC with honors earning a degree in Speech Communications and a minor in Public Relations. He went back to BSC to obtain his post baccalaureate degree in Special Education.

After three years of working with adolescents with emotional and behavioral issues, Mr. Jones took a job at Waltham High School teaching mathematics. He taught there for six years while coaching the wrestling team (which he lead the squad to two division 1 state championship titles). When asked if he has the desire to ever coach here at Westborough, he said his two sons, Ryan, age 7, and Jake, age 5, require a lot of his time.

Mr. Jones intends on enrolling his sons at WHS when they are old enough. Mr. Jones is confident his sons will one day be star athletes under Coach Kittridge and Coach Ellis.

When asked if there be any reason to leave WHS in the future, Mr. Jones replied, “The only thing that I can see preventing me from being a Ranger for life would be if I am unable to withstand the ridiculous questions that I am subjected to on a daily basis from the likes of Mrs. Stoker (who is in fact a first rate educator).”
