Varsity Football Note: Rangers Shut Them Down

by Myles Golman

The Rangers won their previous game in shutout fashion on November 15th at a wet Foley Stadium versus Burncoat High School 21-0.  The Rangers jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead and preserved the shutout in the second half thanks to a terrific effort by the defensive unit, led by linebackers David Orlando and Rob O’Connor.

O’Connor also had two rushing touchdowns and tight end Nick Mastrogiacomo caught a touchdown pass in the win.  Sophomore fullback Sam Nichols also made major contributions to the offense and helped the Rangers improve to 3-7 on the season.

The Rangers next game is the annual Thanksgiving rivalry showdown with Algonquin on Thursday, November 27th.  Come on out to Mewhiney Field, the turf, at 10:15 to watch the Rangers play their last game of the season.  Westborough will be looking to end the season on a positive note, but “they [Algonquin] have a lot of good athletes” according to Coach Ellis, and the home team will need to be on top of their game to conquer the opposition.

Coach Ellis said,  “I love the rivalry.  They [Westborough and Algonquin] deserve to have a rivalry like this.”
