Have a Wonderful Break!

Twilight

by Austin Evans

One of the most anticipated movies of the year “Twilight” opened in theaters, November 21st. “Twilight” is based on a series of novels, of the same name, by Stephanie Meyer. The books have swept the globe, being translated into 20 languages with more than 7 million copies sold world-wide.

“About three things I was absolutely positive

First, Edward was a vampire

Second, there was a part of him-and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be-that thirsted for my blood

And Third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.”

Millions of followers of all ages, “Twilighters” (the equivalent to Star Trek’s “Trekkies”) lined up for midnight releases all over the country, anxiously awaiting the arrival of Edward and Bella (the main characters played by Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart) on the big screen. “Twilight is the perfect mix of romance and adventure that leaves audiences wanting more. The actors were a perfect fit for each character and Edward is beautiful, as he should be.” said  Westborough High School sophomore Nina Nadkarni. The film received mixed reviews from both fans and newcomers to the breath-taking “Twilight” saga. Some “Twilight” fans are able to fill in the gaps that the movie leaves out, while others wished for a better, more complete performance by Edward (Robert Pattinson). Others were excited to finally put a face to the untouchable Edward Cullen. Critics denounced the special effects as “cheap”, when others critizied the flow of the film.

For followers of the “Twilight” saga, one thing was unanimously agreed upon: the screenplay was extremely similar to the book. “Having enjoyed the books I looked forward to seeing the story made into a movie. I loved the transition of the characters from the book to the screen. It was neat to see them characterized by their unique appearances instead of simple descriptions. While many movie adaptations of novels do not live up to the high expectations of readers, I was satisfied by the film and liked it better in some ways, in particular the added humor.” said sophomore Liz Callahan. “Twilight” has a few flaws but is a fantastic opening chapter to this new movie franchise.
