“There was way more diversity in Waltham.  Sometimes I wish it was a bit more diverse [in Westborough]…”

— Jeyson Lopez

Jeyson Lopez was born Richmond, VA, he lived in Los Angeles, California for five years during his childhood.  His mother is from the Dominican Republic and his father is from Guatemala; and therefore, Lopez is fluent in Spanish and English.

His childhood life was difficult for him.  He moved around and lived with his relatives because his parents worked a lot and weren’t around for him all the time.

Lopez comments, “It was for hard for me because my parents were always working and so I would stay with relatives most of the time.”

Lopez’s family moved to east coast to Waltham, MA when he was around ten years old.  He lived there for nine years. Last year, Lopez moved to Westborough because his father found a job.  He had to leave his friends behind to start a new life there. He felt sad when he left.

“I didn’t really want to move because I didn’t know where I was going.  I didn’t know how my life was going to change from city life to suburban life,” remarks Lopez.

Lopez sees a couple of differences between living in Waltham and Westborough.

“There was way more diversity in Waltham.  Sometimes I wish it was a bit more diverse [in Westborough].  Also, the nighttime can be more quiet and lonely [in Westborough}.  And quiet can be good, gives me a moment to think. Also there’s more nature,” says Lopez.

Lopez’s  favorite sport is football; he has been playing since the eighth grade.  He plays cornerback and running back. His favorite football player is the Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones.

His favorite hobby is to resell clothes and sneakers; its a quick way to make money.   His favorite type of music is rap and his favorite music artist is Joyner Lucas. He likes making music as he plays guitar and the drums.

Lopez says in the future, he will move back to Waltham to finish high school.

“I’m excited to go back and see my friends and I will be able to graduate with them,” comments Lopez.

Lopez is hoping to pursue a future major in Computer Hardware Engineering.
