Did you know that a member of the Westborough High School community has run in 30 marathons? Coach Hebert is a cross country coach and coaches year round at WHS.  He has coached cross country for 16 years as well as indoor track for the past 20 years. He also coaches outdoor track.  In addition to all this coaching and running experience he also coached middle school baseball for about 10 years.  In his younger days he was a teacher at WHS!  Coach Hebert taught engineering courses for over 20 years.  He misses teaching but he also likes having more flexible time.

What he enjoys about coaching is: “Seeing a team want to get better. Today was a great day, just seeing a group of girls enjoying a run and feeling better after the run”, he says. He also likes all the friendly competition that goes on.  His philosophy on coaching is that he makes connections with everyone on the team and helps with not only cross country but daily life.  “I like seeing everyone improving and working hard”, he says.  Besides having years of experience as a coach and teacher, Coach Hebert is a very well rounded person with many interests and passions.

When Coach Hebert was a student he was a competitive swimmer.  He first starting running in his early 30’s.   He likes running in the morning so that he can sort out his day and focus on “putting together a training plan and having a great race.”

Coach Hebert resides in Leominster and finds Boston a really fun place to run as well.  In order to get through a difficult run he tells himself to try and stay relaxed, maintain good form and enjoy the experience.  He believes that nutrition plays a huge role in an athlete’s performance but that it’s good to have some foods that you just feel like having.

In Coach Hebert’s free time he likes biking and fixing things in his house.  He also likes hanging out with his grandchildren.  His favorite foods are pizza, pancakes and hot fudge sundaes.  Hebert says he is not much of a traveler, but if he could go anywhere in the world he would go to Disney World because of how classic and fun it is!

Overall, Coach Hebert is an amazing coach, runner and mentor.  He is extremely encouraging and caring.  He makes sure that everyone is having fun and working hard.  Anyone who has him will learn so much from him and will have an awesome experience!
