Masala Cafe Review

Welcome to one of the newest restaurant additions in Westborough! Masala café is a family owned and operated Indian restaurant in the Speedway plaza located on Rte. 9. It is not just about the hot, fresh food that is quickly delivered to your seat, or the friendly staff who guarantee a great experience, there are just so many other aspects that make one want to go back again. For example, the lighting and the slow music create a calm environment calm as a sanctuary from the storm of the outside world.
Unlike some other Indian restaurants in town, the family- friendly environment attracts, not only couples, but families with little kids as well. There is a special “kids menu” just for the little ones who come to the restaurant. The food is prepared once you order versus a re-heat formula applied by other restaurants.
When one enters The Masala Cafe, he/she is greeted with warm and friendly smiles and two televisions displaying the menu.
The simple payment options, like the apple pay service, make this restaurant visit as smooth and great as the Mango lassi available. Along with the sweet delight, the wide variety of selection ranges from $1 to as high as $15. The menu also has plenty of options available for vegetarians and vegans as well!
As I am a vegetarian, I ordered the podi dosa. I was served with a crepe made from rice batter with a spicy powder spread on the inside. This dish was also served with three kinds of “chutneys” a.k.a. side dishes. Personally, I was quite impressed with the quantity size, it was just the right proportion for an average adult. I believe that this restaurant speciality is a must try! Along with the dosa, I also tried their freshly made warm gulab jamuns, a very popular dessert in India. As I took the first bite, the sweet taste brought me back to India. The relishing treat was just enough to end my lunch. However, to make it more formal, a three course meal is available as well.
I went to Masala Cafe with my uncle who ordered his all time favorite veg. Biryani, a rice delicacy often served with plain yogurt. He was quite curious to see if the biryani was as good and spicy as the one that he had in India. I must say, we both were extremely happy with the result. The aroma of the rice was enough to make me full! The serving style was quite unique as well.
All in all, whether it is for quick bites, take outs, or full course meals, Masala Café is definitely recommended to all. Mostly people seem to go to the restaurant for a meal instead of take-out. One does not need to make reservations to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience.
